Mysteries, thrillers, home of PI Thomas Black

The first four Mac Fontana novels are now on Kindle. Number five, the last one, will be showing up shortly. If you read them a long time ago, they’re a hoot to read again, and if you’ve never read one, The New York Times listed the first one, Black Hearts and Slow Dancing as one of their ten best mysteries for that year. After re-reading these, I’m not sure why I ever stopped writing the series. Enjoy.

These are only available on Kindle right now. People smarter than I am know how to convert a Kindle-formatted book into almost anything else. Maybe you are one of those people. If not, after book five is on Kindle we’ll start the conversions to the other formats. That shouldn’t take longer than one long weekend.

These books are fun. One exchange my proofreader picked out was this one between Fontana and a woman investigator, Underhill.

“All I know is, he keeps asking me out.”
“Roger? Roger does? Roger is married.”
“He says his wife won’t mind if we don’t tell her. I feel sorry for her, but not enough to take him off her hands.”

I don’t know. Maybe it doesn’t work out of context.

One thing I can’t believe about these early books is how many gritty stories about the fire department show up in them. After writing five Fontanas it’s a wonder I had anything left for the six stand-alone thrillers I wrote later. Cheers. ee

  1. Naomi Johnson Said,

I re-read the first four recently and I had to wonder why I had taken so long to re-read them. The Fontana books are terrific. Funny and gritty and quirky. I love how blunt Mac can be, and I love his relationship with his son. I even love Mo Costigan and her flawed sunglasses.
